Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Rankings

Here's an interesting league table. I found it thanks to this blog, which also notes that being a skiing nation will propel you nearer to the top of the list.

It tells you a lot about me and my love of the underdog that my response to such a list would be to begin harbouring desires to visit lots of countries at the lower end of the list! Though I can already get as far down as the 126th most competitive out of 133, which is pretty good.

A more detailed report with country profiles, etc, is here. This gives more information about what the rankings are based on -- each country profile has a breakdown of what the criteria are. I assumed it would be just based on number of visitors and how much money they were making, but it seems to be more nuanced than that with all sorts of factors taken into account.
